Harry Potter is looking forward to his 3rd year at Hogwarts, but he gets off to a rocky start after accidentally inflating his Aunt Marge. To makes matters worse, convict and murderer Sirius Black (who was in Voldemort's inner circle) has escaped from the wizard prison Azkaban. Muggle and wizard communities alike are on the alert.
After Harry escapes to London, he lurns that Black broke out of Azkaban not just to re-join Voldemort, but to finish him off. Once back at Hogwarts, Harry sees that the security has been heightened. In addition to the many charms and spells that protect the halls of Hogwarts, terrible creatures called Dementors have been called to patrol the grounds.
Throughout the year, Harry will discover more about his father and the mysterious past of the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Lupin. He will come to own an incredible magical object called the Marauder's Map, and eventually, confront the very man who's been waiting twelve years to kill him.
