Methods of Travel

Did you think wizards got around in cars? No way! Here are some of the preferred methods of getting around.

Broomsticks: Broomsticks are used for transportation by wizards and witches of all ages and for the game of Quidditch. There are also toy broomsticks for young children which only fly about three feet off the ground. There are many different kinds of broomsticks. Some of them are better than others. The Nimbus series and the Firebolt are some of the most popular models. Broomsticks are not the best method for getting around since they do not protect against the elements, but this is Harry Potter's favorite method since he is a natural at flying.

Floo Powder: Floo powder is a favorite method of transportation among wizards. Floo powder is a sparkly green powder. If you want to go somewhere, simply take a handful of the floo powder and sprinkle it on the fireplace. While doing this, speak (very clearly) the name of the place you want to go. If the location is connected to the floo network, then you should be able to travel there.

Flying Carpets: Flying carpets were popular many years ago, but were since outlawed in the wizarding world. They came in all sorts of different sizes. Some of them were big enough to seat a huge family.

Portkey: A portkey is an object that will transport a wizard to a certain location at a set time when they touch the object. Usually portkeys are seemingly unimportant items like boots and old cans so that Muggles won't touch them.
